My seventh grade girl started to ask me questions that she encountered in science Olympiad prep. Quickly I realized they were basic physics problems. Unfortunately the middle school curriculum does not carry it and she need some systematic intro to physics before she can google topics online and makes sense out of it. The book serves the purpose as a gentle intro to physics. Not too hard, well organized and with exercise.

I have been looking for a book on basic, elementary physics for quite some time. The books I was able to find were unsuitable for a few different reasons. One reason was that they often came in more than one volume, which was expensive. Another problem was the lack of self-tests. Finally, some required you to use the Internet for part of their program.
This book was designed for someone who is learning on their own. It has frequent questions, and self-tests after various sections. This lets you know whether you’ve actually understood what you’ve just learned. You get feedback right away, which is important. This way, when I’ve missed something I become aware of it right away, so I can go back and review whatever it was that I missed.
Would recommend, to those who want to learn some of the basics of physics.

I purchased this book because it was needed for my class, but it’s definitely a good book for those who want to understand physics. It shows you how to do any equation step by step. There are also practice questions for each chapter with answers provided to make sure you did it correctly . I would recommend !

I bought this book for my seventh grader daughter to familiarize her with the basic physics concepts with minimum mathematical treatments. I read this book completely along with her. This is a good introductory physics book. If someone reads this book in middle school (apart from regular science curriculum in middle school), then that student will be definitely benefited when he/she will start actual Physics course in high school. Language of this book is very lucid and good amount of solved self explanatory problems has been given. I thought I will give five star rating, but I did not. I can see below basics topics are missing in this book and hopefully the author will include them in the future.

I self-learn many subjects I’m interested in and this book is off to an incredible start. I just got it today, but I’m so excited to learn everything it offers. The way it is laid out is engaging and covers the topics enough to make it stick(and cover pesky edge cases) while not boring me and holding my attention. I have finished a few of the tests and there’s no way I could’ve done it before this book(without cheating). I will be buying more of these books.

Having no scientific background or training, but an interest in how the world works and a desire to stretch myself I have tried other ‘teach yourself’ physics texts which promised a great deal but failed to deliver. This one is superb. It is unpretentious but nevertheless gives clear and understandable explanations of how physics describes the way things work. It needs concentration, but the effort is more than repaid by the results. The insights it gives into even everyday phenomena is quite amazing. I loved every minute I spent studying it and would recommend it to anyone who wants an introduction to the subject. It doesn’t even require any great mathematical ability (which is just as well as I am also trying to teach myself maths), but formulae etc are included for those who are interested. Excellent

If you want to learn more of the mathematical and equational aspects of Physics, then this book is for you. It’s part textbook, part workbook. It has lots of pictures, graphs, visual explanations, and each section has study questions to reinforce what you just read. The only thing that I really really really do not like about this book, is that the answers to the questions are literally right under the questions, so I have to cover them up so I don’t accidentally peek. I like to just read the questions, reference the reading material again if I need too, do the math, figure it out, and then see if I am right or wrong and how far off I was if at all. If they would change that, the book would be perfect. Great for individuals that are want more insight to the subject of Physics. If you do not like math, do not get this book. You need basic math skills (high school/pre-algebra) to fully grasp this book and be able to spend time solving the math, not researching how to read the math to solve the math!

This book would be perfect for homeschool curriculum but it is extremely frustrating that the answers to the problems are given directly beneath the problem. Like math books, the answers should be in the back of the book.

I bought this book for my granddaughter, who will be in ninth-grade physics next school year. She wasn’t exactly excited to see this “gift” because it’s still summer break, but I think it will be a strong help to her when things in class aren’t always understood. I may even learn something myself.
