I ordered this book 2 weeks ago when it was at it’s pre-order stage. I received it yesterday because it came out yesterday and let me tell you I was impressed. I bought this book because I’m in 8th grade and learning Algebra 1 and I didn’t do Pre-algebra. I wanted something that had both and this book has it all. I looked on my teachers page for what units we are doing in Algebra and this book has all the units I’m learning/ going to learn. This is my first time buying a Big Fat Notebook and I’m glad my choice was this. THANK YOU BIG FAT NOTEBOOKS!

I’m using this for 8th grade because I already know what they are teaching us, I really like this book because it’s easy to understand and gets straight to the point. I got this book yesterday and I found something in the book, on page 15 it showed the answer for question 8 and 10. I don’t mind it but kind of wished I could have done it myself but it’s still a great book.

The book seems as thorough as the others. We have all of these books and love them. Unfortunately, this one has a couple of printer errors and was cut incorrectly. On pages 24 & 25, It looks like it was double printed. Then, pages 48 & 49 were also double printed. Page 49 is bigger and was folded before it was printed. This left the front double printed at an angle, and the back half blank.

I love the Big Fat Notebooks and I have several in my collection. As a homeschool parent with a learning disability, having this resource to help me clearly see what steps we need for Algebra is a lifesaver! I feel confident now I can help my son figure it all out!

This book is a great introduction to Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1. It introduces the reader to more challenging concepts with ease and makes a topic that usually is a challenge somewhat easier. Highly Recommend!

We have purchased nearly all of these books for my 12 year old son for homeschooling. He finds then very easy to understand and they have helped him place past high school knowledge levels on the standardized tests required by the state of Virginia.
Kate –
This is the first high school book I have purchased from this publisher.
I have purchased all of the middle school books including World History, American History, English Language Arts, Science and Computer Science and Coding.
My daughter will have homework that has the same content as these books but they are easier to use and are more condensed.
I haven’t been in school for quite some time and these books help me, help her.
I absolutely love them.
Kelli –
I hate it that kids aren’t given school books like we were, but this little book & its friends for Bio & Chem are great ways to help your kids understand what they are doing! Highly recommend!!
Gretchen –
I tutor in a high school. I’ve used this book and its companion book on Geometry and Biology. Concise diagrams are very helpful to students who struggle with math and/or sciende

My son switched from 8th grade math to Algebra, two months after school started. The teachers warned us that it would be difficult since the other kids were already 5 weeks into the class so i got this to help. There was a couple of times he was stuck and we used this book to supplement. Helps a lot. I love the layout of the information. It really does seem like you borrowed your friends notes!

I have all the middle school books, so I grabbed the high school ones to try out. Both my kids were struggling in this subject, we’re going through them and it’s clicking. It would be great if the answers were explained, but you’re able to find a similar problem in the examples and work through it usually.

My kids love these types of books. They are full of information and easy to read format. It doesn’t clunk up the book with a lot of technical jargon but rather has terminology that is well defined and provided with examples. The illustrations are well thought out and not overly complicated. It is an engaging book that has captivated my kids when they open it up, we enjoy this series.

I purchased several of these books. Chemistry, Algebra, History, General Science, Biology. They are all great! I teach chemistry and wanted to see if this is something I would recommend to parents and the answer is an absolute yes for regular level general chemistry. It does not go into enough depth for advanced chemistry or advanced placement chemistry (AP Chemistry).
My son is in 8th grade and he found them very helpful as a review tool for tests. He also likes to use them to make sure he took good notes during class. He will compare his notes to the information in the book and fill in missing parts to his notes. There are “check for understanding” assignments scattered out through the chapters as well. Love Them!!!!
So, if you kiddo is remote because of the pandemic or home schooled, these would work great!!

The book is written so that kids can understand the topics easily, but I would recommend adults to check the answers for the exercises since there are some errors. Also, I wish they had more challenging exercises. The books is good to introduced topics of algebra and present concepts in a concise manner.

My 7th grader was placed in Algebra 1 this year and it had been a disaster! Now if he doesn’t understand something we go straight to this book. My one wish is that it went to high school courses as my other child would love a Pre-Cal version!

good book

–This is one of the best investments I have made in my teaching profession. Sometimes you have no idea where you will be placed or where you will be asked to fill in. This is certainly a stress buster

My daughter is in 9th grade at our local high school. She says this book has been very helpful to her and gave her more confidence in Algebra class
Can’t Stop The Music In My Head –
My son was having trouble with algebra. This book explained and everything. Has review questions after each chapter with answer key. I have bought their complete series for elementary, middle school and high school. Couldn’t have had such success with homeschooling without these books. Kids love them!

These books, particularly for math, are a must for the parent that gives a darn about their kids’ understanding of the subject. They have simple visuals, easy to understand examples, and they work. For you who want to help your child, use this book with them. Do not just throw it at them and think it is enough. These books will help you remember what you’ve forgotten and help you help your kids toward success.

This is my algebra 1 Bible as I am mathematics teacher. This book have a lot of guided practice, help check for understanding and build the students confidence.

This book is a must read for anyone learning Pre-Algebra or Algebra! An asset to any homeschoolers or students home library!

UP to Unit 4, fractions with negative exponents, and the answers they give to questions 9 & 10 are wrong. I checked my work, and then checked with an online algebra problem solver: that got the same answers I did. I hope there aren’t more wrong answers through the book. Would make refreshing my math knowledge a bit harder.

We are going to try it out and see if it will help her understand her math problems better. The teachers did like the book so we will see how this week goes.
Math Customer –
This book is great and teaches the easier way to pre algebra work my kid is doing in school
JG Buckmire –
We are homeschooling and this has been an amazing resource.
Nai –
Purchased this and 2 other math books for a friend’s child.

Now if you’re like me who struggles with Math in general, this book is EASY TO UNDERSTAND without the big vocabulary words. ITS THOROUGH AND COMPACTED IN SMALL CHAPTERS WITH QUIZ AND ANSWER SHEET at the end of each chapter. It’s definitley a SMALL SIZE BOOK but filled with useful information. Its also color coded and that’s one of the best ways I learn.

I tutor students in Math. This book is great for the PreAlgebra and Algebra 1 student. So I give a copy to each of my new students.

Great way to grasp the concept of each chapter
Rita A Castillo –
These books are so good they break everything down to make it simple, I struggled with math all through college I wished I had it then.

I homeschool and these books my daughter loves
Charles Kovacs –
Oddly enough my 14-year-old daughter wanted all of these books for Christmas. Only God can understand why a normal child would want a bunch of school books. But I bought every one of them for an accidentally bought this one twice.!!

My son loves this series of books. He has middle school series. I bought him this Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 book this winter. It was very helpful for me to re-learn and tutor him. The colorful design was fun for a math book, and the explanations and examples were pretty good (except for the reasoning behind the quadratic formula and the pages after). I give it 4 stars because we came across some errors in the answers to exercise questions (maybe around 10 errors in the whole book), and also, the last chapter is short of exercise questions.

It has been a long time since using algebra to the degree that is needed in order to help my son with his homework (8th grade). I 100% recommend this book. It has pictures, graphs, examples of a variety or algebraic problems. I’ve found it incredibly useful in jumpstarting our brains so that we can get through problems that maybe normally would need extra help in class, a homework club or tutor. There are problems for practice, as well as an answer key, along with definitions of key words used.
Dina –
I really like this book! I am a math tutor, and when I need to brush up on a topic, there is a concise but thorough explanation of the topic, including example problems, and then on the immediately following page there are about 10 review problems (with solutions immediately following) so I can practice the skill. Pages are colorful and engaging, with a variety of helpful illustrations, summaries, and tips.

I needed additional review because I moved a couple of times during high school which resulted in gaps of my knowledge base with Algebra. I am currently taking a basic math class in college as a requirement for my college degree. I need this book for additional reference. I really appreciate the format of this book. The way it’s put together and the use of colors helps my attention and understanding. Thank You for this book. 👍🏻

I was able to understand it the book broke thing down to the point I passed my math courses with a B
I’m so happy.

I just finished working all the problems in the book after 3 days and checking my work with a graphing calculator when I can’t find the same correct answer. There’s at least 10 errors in the book so I can’t give it 5 stars. I like the pictures, explanations, and how the problems are written out. It’s still useful but you need a calculator to check your answers sometimes. They should release another edition with corrections. Great refresher for pre-Algebra an Algebra 1. I was recommended this book by the “The Math Sorcerer” on YouTube.

At age 75, I have decided to re-learn algebra as a step to staying mentally fit. This book makes it fun and easy. I’m up to page 300. Polynomials and quadratic equations were never explained this well in high school!

Great walk along for homeschool! I love the Brain Quest books!
Ms D –
As an adult refreshing math for college, I found this book to be a great resource.
Miriam S. –
It’s so simple to understand and every exercise comes with the answers. It’s done in such a bright, illustrated fashion I think most students and teachers would love.
RLFL –
Florida middle-schooler in High School Algebra, this covers all of her topics (including statistical graphs) and does a great job explaining things, much better than the assigned text.
It has some problems/answers, but it’s more of an “explaining” book than a source of practice problems.
The sections on factoring and quadratics on solving them are especially good.
M. Barry –
So far we have encountered 1 problem that had an incorrect answer. Other than that we love the book.
Stewart –
Someone did their homework. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, no nonsense. The only complaint I have is the chapter tests should have more math problems. 10 to 15 math problems are not enough. Increase the chapter test to 50 math problems. The book gives the answers to the chapter test! Never buy a textbook that doesn’t give answers to test questions. Always read the table of content.
Confidentlyurs –
For the parent, guardian or homework helper this book is such a great help
Any of the subjects written by this exact name is WORTH THE MONEY. Helpful all year and for end of the year review
Sarah –
I love it, it helps me follow along so much easier. I just wish they make a Algebra 2 and maybe a Pre-cal since that is what I will need for next year.
Customer –
Great book for everyday practice. My kid who hates math doesn’t hate it. I won’t say he lives it because it’s still math. The chapters are broken down into daily manageable sections and assignments. I took off one star because I don’t like that the answers for the problems are on the flip side of the problem page and not a separate (or even removeable) part completely.
Angela A Aspen –
This is a basic outline type of learning. Best for someone who has already study the subject and need more training or refreshing of the knowledge.
Nicole Edwards –
I am a teacher and tutor and love using this book to review before I tutor my students. Definitely love this book
